HDG means 'Hot Dipped Galvanised', which involves submerging the steel watering can into a molten zinc bath. The molten zinc coats the watering can inside and out forming a protective coating. The can is then removed from the bath and hung to dry.

Excess zinc is removed to offer a sweeter finish, however, there is a fine line where too much cleaning compromises the protective seal. So a rough or mottled galvanised finish is to be expected.
