Royal Sussex Trug - Garden Trug No 6
Invented by Thomas Smith of Herstmonceux in the 1820’s, the original Sussex trug reimagined the historic Anglo Saxon “trog”, and in doing so created a part of the English gardening scene that is now world famous!
Each basket is hand-built by skilled craftsmen from sturdy chestnut wood for the rim and handle, and willow wood for the boards. While its intended purpose is to serve as a gardening aid, its functionality is virtually endless: use it as a picnic basket, for fresh produce storage, or as part of a rustic centerpiece.

Independently owned by Julia Keen and Brian Hamilton, hortus is now established as one of the finest gardening stores in the country.
